    52:07 The LDS belief that the just AND the unjust will be resurrected which will be followed by judgement: is supported by Acts 24:14-15 "But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust."

    My husband served in several bishoprics and it took a toll on our marriage, but we made it through. Just being honest, we definitely fought more during those times, but we were young and had a lot of growing to do. I struggled with health issues the whole time, so it made taking care of the kids thstvmuch harder.

    This is my interpretation of the plan of salvation based on the bible. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) to provide a place for mankind. God made man in His own image (Genesis 1:27) and said it was not good for man to be alone, so He created Eve as a companion (Genesis 2:18-22). Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden to live eternally, without separation from each other or from God, intended to form an immortal family (Genesis 2:8, 24). After Eve partook of the forbidden fruit, God said that man had become like one of us, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:22). To prevent man from accessing the tree of life and living forever in his fallen state, God placed a separation between them and the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:23-24). The plan of salvation was established from the very beginning, before we came to this earth. Christ taught that we can become like gods, or like God Himself, as we strive to become one as He and the Father are one (John 17:21-23). The Bible clearly states that works are necessary for progression in the afterlife and that we will be judged according to our deeds, not just our beliefs (James 2:17, Revelation 20:12). The true gift of eternal life was given to everyone through Christ's atonement, death on the cross, and resurrection, ensuring that all mankind will be resurrected, not just those who believe, but those who also do the things required of them (1 Corinthians 15:22, John 5:28-29)."

    Why would God even put a tree of knowledge of good and evil if He didn't want Adam and Eve to partake? Couldn't He just not put the tree there? If He is all knowing and wasn't surprised by the fact that they did partake, why wouldn't He just not put the tree there? If that was the cause of all the evil and horrible things that would come into this world, why would God create that? Seems like He was either not very smart, or He doesn't like us very much to put us through that, or He had a reason for doing all of that and it was part of a greater plan. I really appreciate the conversations that are happening. I love thinking through the differences and similarities and how we can all get along better even though we don't agree on all things. That doesn't mean that can't have civil conversations.

    Your reaction is hilarious, I personally stopped liking Halloween when I was about 20 and most of the people I knew thought I was nuts. Because they liked little kids and their cute little costumes dressing up as princesses and fairies and cats and dogs and adorable little things like that. To me as a teenager, we focused on the scary side of Halloween and one day God opened my eyes and I haven’t seen a horror movie since 1992. Other people watch them around me and I look away. I am not a fan. I don’t like it and I don’t want any part of it. I am also from Utah, but I’m different. I think part of it is people are sheltered and they just focus on the fun side in Utah. And I am a latter-day saint who first and foremost is and has always been a Christian

    I *LOVE* the analogy of being rescued by the coastguard! From an LDS context, to break down the aspects of that that I think then fit into our theology is that Christ offers the rescue (his hand is outstretched still), but we do have to use our agency to grab on, and accept that rescue. We first have to accept that we need that help, and believe that this offered basket or hand will be able to save us enough to act on it (faith), and then act on that faith and engage with it (baptism - or the work that is a manifestation of your faith, faith being a word of action more than just belief). However, no matter how much we 'grab' at a rescue (do a work), it wouldn't matter if Christ hadn't performed the atonement. Fortunately He did :). However, once we grab on, we are *not yet* out of danger. At that point we need to keep holding on. And in order to help us secure ourselves even more firmly to this rescue, we may attach ropes or harnesses (again, only available because of Christ's offering of them to us to use). These help us to continue to hold on. But even after all of that, Christ will not *compel* us to be saved, and will leave to us the agency to let go of His hand, detach any extra securing methods, and turn away from Him. He will always be begging us to hold on, and even if we ever let go in any capacity, He will continue to offer the rescue (his hand is outstretched still). And in that, I still completely agree that it would be foolish to indicate that you saved yourself in any way, because it was Christ who came, provided help, and lifted you up. However, you can acknowledge that you had to do *something* to accept that help, and continue to receive that help as he lifts you up. You can be pleased that you accepted the gifts of harnesses or ropes to further secure you to Him, and share with others that these additional actions that He offered were helpful. He alone made that even possible, and deserves all of the credit, for with out Him, it would not have happened. But we are still asked to engage, to act, and show that we choose to be saved, and improve ourselves so that we might be a help to others around us. And in not only performing that action, but to not at least mention that we had to take those actions, others *could* interpret that as an indication that He will come and with no effort on our part, pull us to salvation. (that is not to take away from the fact that in our weakness, we might ask Him for His help, where he might pick us up with only our desire to be saved, and gives us His strength to perform the actions needed to keep us connected to him. too many nuanced aspects for one analogy to be perfect for the entirety of the plan :D)

    @jaredbennett7677 3 дня назад

    In trying to contextualize the idea of potentially getting a chance to accept the gospel after they die comes from Alma, who mentions that when we die, the same spirit that possesses our body at that time (and I take that as indicating our desires and intentions) will be the spirit we are after death, into our resurrection. So more than the ordinances specifically, if we have worked to make ourselves humble and willing to accept Christ, he will make sure that any other technical details are taken care of (enter temple work and the millennium). Just because they are required, and by our understanding require a physical body, doesn't prevent us from receiving Christ's grace and salvation if we didn't get a chance to. What will actually get in our way is being too prideful to accept the gospel even at that point. So the important thing is to work on being humble and willing to learn, which I think that many of the ordinances do. And beyond any aspect of 'box checking' that may be involved, I do think that a big part of the reason that Christ commands us to perform these ordinances and works is firstly as demonstrations of our conversion, and secondly trying to ensure that we maintain that conversion throughout our lives.

    As Jesus Christ was baptized, symbolizing, death barrel, and the resurrection we also need to be baptized in his name even those who have passed on need to have baptism performed on their behalf. Latter-day Saints know that God does not limit who could be saved based on who heard of Jesus Christ in this life. We understand he is the Savior of the World ❤not just people who heard of him in life, and thus we vicariously provide those opportunities for all of mankind to choose baptism after learning about it or accepting after death essentially, we believe the Jesus didn’t just save a select few who heard of him in this life , because the gospel of Jesus Christ is bigger and encompasses all mankind who will accept and believe in Jesus Christ. The other ordinances in the temple help us to accept Jesus Christ on a deeper level, and allow true Love in Marriage by God to endure all Eternity. Because God most certainly believes in and lives eternally as God in the Glory of love and righteousness.

    It is not an entirely accurate statement that baptisms for the dead was a pagan practice in Corinth or anywhere else. It is still up for debate amongst scholars. Just goes to show even more the need for prophets and apostles with God's authority to interpret doctrinnal scriptures correctly. A quick google search clarifies this: "Some scholars believe that baptism for the dead might have been a pagan custom or a superstitious practice in the Corinthian church, which Paul was addressing in 1 Corinthians 15. However, this interpretation is not universally accepted, and many scholars argue that Paul’s mention of baptism for the dead is meant to emphasize the importance of the resurrection and the hope of eternal life, rather than promoting a specific practice."

  • @32wellss
    @32wellss 3 дня назад

    I think the other RUclipsrs were referring to John 3:5. I know you went over your interpretation in the video. But it then begs the question, who is interpreting the scriptures correctly and how can we know?

    The utter lack of institutional transparency in the LDS Church alone would prevent this from ever happening. There is not only a lack of "revelating" anything but an immense amount of energy and resources spent preventing anything factual about its history, finances, or scandals from ever being revealed.

    I commented yesterday but would also like to add that one of the main reasons temple work is important to us is to help our ancestors and others who have passed on, who may not have had a relationship with Christ, to have access to those blessings and opportunities in the eternities. Also, the Book of Mormon and temples are tools that point us to Christ- for instance, the Book of Mormon’s main purpose is to be another testament of Christ. Our testimony meetings should be laser focused on Christ and his Atonement, and some meetings show that better than others. And I agree, I’ve felt the Holy Ghost in many different musical settings, even hearing country music at a gas station and having an answer to prayer through its message.

    Bishops are not called without knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I would suspect that most, or all have gone on missions, and had to learn the discussions for two years of that. And most have been learning about the church and the gospel since they were very young, very elementary basics, even as a toddler in the nursery. Their first class after that is when they are three years old. Each year after that in Primary, goes up to adolescence, each year discussing gospel concepts appropriate for that age group. Then in Mutual after that, they study more advanced gospel topics, boys get the priesthood, and learn about the proper use of that, according to the responsibilities at various ages. They move up at specified ages, as they are able to handle more of the priesthood responsibilities. Then they get ready to serve missions…either a service or proselyting one, or a combination of both. Both young men and young women can serve missions if they get an okay from a doctor concerning their health. If available, they will have attended seminary in junior high and high school. And the youth go on Treks, like the pioneers did. They do service projects as well. As they get to be adults, they join the Elders Quorum and the young women join the Relief Society. Before missions, they take temple preparation classes, and go to the temple, where learning takes place. And they take preparation classes for a mission at a special place. Some learn a new language. For those who do not serve missions, they may go to college or vocational school, and take institute classes that focus on things like preparation for marriage, and marriage itself, or the words of the prophets, or focus on the books of scripture. There are others, too. Those are of a theological nature. I do not know of a bishop who has not gone through years of learning about Christ and the gospel, and the proper use of the priesthood. Even converts must have done so. Most likely, they have held various callings to help them to prepare, but without anticipation of preparation. Callings, such as teachers and others many others. The ward has many callings to fill many purposes. Besides all of the above, members of the church are counseled to teach in the home, such as at Monday night Family Home Evening. They can learn all kinds of things there, from practical and temporal skills, to caregiving when ill, or gospel topics. Families like to share things and serve together at those times, too. The church also teaches about finances and budgeting, and how to get education or a job, or get counseling for problems, both for families and individuals. There is a big focus on emergency preparation in the church, such as preparing for times of scarcity or disasters. They encourage everyone to be able to handle a job or career, to help provide for their family. These days, it can take more than one working to meet the family’s temporal needs. A few mothers are able to be at home with the children during the day. Others try to work up until their children come home from school. I have a Relief Society calling to be on a Relief Society Service Committee, and we coordinate, and also provide meals for those in need, including for families following funerals. It can take hours to serve at the funerals, but most of the dishes are brought by other sisters in the Relief Society….although each of us usually brings one. We can keep them cold or warm, and the tables and choirs are set up by the brothers, and we do the rest, and put things out cafeteria style.

    Something I found amusing…Elder Uchdorf asked us in General Conference if we could imagine Jesus running around, multitasking, to see how many things he could get done? Then he brought out the answer, NO…and we know that Jesus was perfect!! So maybe perfection is not what we may think. Maybe it is all based on love ❤️. The purpose of life is to enjoy the journey, and show love ❤️ to each other. That is what Elder Uchdorf’s was trying to tell us. That’s why I like to learn about the gospel….even though life is hard, the load is lightest if we stay on the gospel path 😊!! Challenges are not easy, but those are life!! So we can look for the simple joys every day!! We are subject to the fall of Adam, so we are imperfect beings on this earth, just doing our best. It’s the ordinances that help us to be able to follow the Holy Spirit better…they make our load lighter. People do not always understand those…they only bring relief. Some of life’s burdens we have to carry, and it’s true that they can even give us traction to get things done, life can be complicated these days, and demand a lot of us….but the gospel is there to help lighten our load, and we only have to do our best. Amen.

    Hi Jeff, I know it as this. The scriptures say that we will be judged for what we have done in this life. If we do good, we get a good reward, and that is whether (or not) that we have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We can can progress there too. The restored gospel with the priesthood ordinances is forever. To me, they just help living the commandments become easier. The Lord has told us, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” But it’s life and its tests and trials is what can be hard. That is why we need answers, with Sunday worship, the sacrament and lessons, and to refocus every day with scriptures prayer, lessons and General Conference talks. Maybe read one each day, and the lessons follow the pages of the scriptures. I include a hymn at times. They also can help to build a testimony, as the writers and composers get inspiration. The Holy Spirit also speaks those truths to us through their hymns. God has given us much help to get answers for and help with our questions, concerns and problems…and challenges. I call my daily three spiritual refuel to do’s, my daily devotional. I am not yet perfect at it, but working towards it!! Life gets crazy, and we must carve out time for those. But if we do, all else falls in line. If our intents are good, and our works that follow are good, God will be pleased with us, and continue to teach us what we need to know!! He always loves us. That is how I see it. None of us should ever worry if God loves us or not, or if Jesus is our friend. They both are both, and that is something we can depend on!! When I go to church, the Holy Spirit there is a true relief for my soul. And so are the lessons about Christ!! I get amazed at how the Lord in the lessons comes up with what I need at the time!! I am wondering if he teaches us all similar things in life at similar times…maybe? Church is like a hospital where we can heal and get well, because life can get hard. It is also where we get knowledge and motivation to keep going, to be faithful and true to him, and to our best selves!!

    All we have to do at the present time is follow the prophet, and that is the way to happiness. How about just working towards joy and eternal life with God for now. He can guide us the rest of the way once we get there. I know that I will never be perfect in this life, and it’s hard to imagine in the next life, but through my Savior, I can repent daily, and work towards conquering one thing at a time, and perfecting one thing at a time. We can always remember, too, that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. One can be perfect in something that is cut and dry, such as choosing not to partake of a thing that is not good for us, even when we are tempted. One can grow to be strong, and desire what is right, as well. We will be judged for our thoughts and desires as well as our actions. Being pure in heart is the way that we want and seek to be. That’s why I like, and believe in following the prophet, and keeping the words and teachings of past prophets in my mind as well. I pray that whatever way we choose to believe about the necessity of works, I pray that we choose to do them, to help the Lord bring about his miracles.

    Jeff!! Please teach the Mormons about Gods Grace and love and the gift of free agency. Mormons will think they know and understand it but most do not. We have to obey we made covenants at 8 then we had to make covenants in the temple before we go on a mission, (we didn't have a choice & we can't talk about it without being disciplined or excommunicated) we have to wear garments to keep us modest and remind us to obey. (secret..no one likes wearing them) Our bishop has a spiritual pitch fork to push us into repentance. As kids we had early morning seminary each day not to mention daily prays and scripture study... talk about OVERKILL!! We never truly had a choice. I wish I could take the "cult" out of the church. I believe in Jospeh Smith and the Book of Mormon, it's just our leader's love to CONTROL EVERYTHING!! Please help them!

    I’m glad you are helping many people. In the last day will be only two churches. The Church of Christ and the church of the devil. This last one, in my opinion, are the people who hate God, the people who openly violate the commandments. People who are lost because of pride. You are doing a wonderful job. May God bless you.

    Are you suggesting that all of the competing doctrines out there can be true? God is not the author of confusion. Thank goodness for the restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

    when we submit our will to God's will, we ultimately become better and draw closer to God. As we learn more of Christ and mold ourselves to His likeness we will always improve.

    1:25:00 Beguiled. How? Satan takes on the form of a serpent. The serpent later represents Christ. Did Satan take on a form that Eve recognized? If not a form...the likeness or disguise?

    1:24:00 It is important to note that Satan always tempts people with what they really want. Eve sincerely wanted to be as God. She wanted to grow. She was perhaps frustrated with the process. I say process as we believe that Adam and Eve were being taught in the Garden by God. And look what Satan tempted Heavenly Father with in the pre-existence: "Send me and I will make sure they all come home." The one thing God wanted...for us all to come home. It really says something about the nature of Satan.

    If you visit a typical Catholic parish for mass, you will see whole families there together. Children are very welcome. Many churches do have the children leave the service during the time of the liturgy of the word, where scripture is read. The children have their own reading an exclamation of the scriptures. The children are then return to the service to take part in the liturgy of the Eucharist. Some Catholic churches do provide a cry room or a space where you can take a child if you need to. Many, or most do not. Children are welcome and it is really nice to see the whole families worshiping together. If you attend a typical Traditional Catholic Church that is a pre-Vatican to parish, you will find that the children are even quiet. a parish we belong to a long time ago was one that was filled with young families. The archbishop came to visit, and he remarked that he thought the average age of the parishioners at Saint Margaret of York was about nine months. He wasn’t far off.
